This excellent retelling of Pride and Prejudice takes place in current day Brooklyn.  Zuri lives in a divided brownstone with her mom and dad, an older sister, Janae (home from college for the summer), and three younger sisters (two of whom are straight up silly).  Zuri’s neighborhood is very close. Block parties, stoop sitting, struggling to make ends meet, and looking out for one another are all a part of their culture. Girls Made of Snow and Glass is an absolute must-read for anyone who enjoys fairytale retellings or reimaginings.  Along with Heartless by Marissa Meyer, this is the best one I’ve ever read.  What author, Melissa Bashardoust, does in this book that is really cool and different from other reimaginings is that she gives the story some major feminist twists and makes the two main characters (the Snow White and Evil Queen characters) so dynamic that they are barely recognizable by the end of the story.

Look to the Stars. Aim. Ignite!  Welp, the totes adorbs factor is absolutely off the charts on this one.  It’s an absolute must-read for any boy, girl, man, or woman who considers him or herself to be a part of any fandom.  Is it predictable?  Well, duh.  But that’s more than okay.  Let’s look at the title and analyze the cover.  GeekERELLA.  A pumpkin (okay, it’s a food truck instead of a coach).  Girl in ball gown (wearing all-access pass to a comic-con event).  One missing shoe.  Could it be a Cinderella retelling?  You bet.  Is it unlike one you’ve ever read before?  Again, you bet....
